special after season deer hunt for those with unfilled tags

the IDNR is to have a meeting this thurs. to determine if they will have another deer season later this month . due to the bad weather, there is a lot of unfilled tags from the gun seasons. they may open a special season for antler less only.if interested, check the iowa dnr web site later this week! del

Unfortunately, it sounds like this is going to happen. I guess if weather gets too bad during late muzzleloader season we should start whining for more days to hunt as well. Seems like a really stupid idea to me.

Couldnt agree more, especially for us open country hunters up north. If I was a ML hunter, I'd be PO'd.

These types of winters also make for some early sheds on the bucks. I'd suggest that anyone that has a group of deer going by, not to take the largest deer in the herd, especially during the late rifle season.

Even without a rack, any deer hunter that has any experience, should be able to tell by the size, shape and body language whether it truly is a buck or a doe, regardless if it has horms or not.
