Tested a Showdown today

CNC- I too owned a Clearwater Classic when it came out. I can tell you my opinion.. The new Showdown is far better than the CC. It has zoom, digital depth readout. 8 different colors of grey. ect.... If you have the money, I would think it would be a no-brainer. However, you can holdout as long as that CC still catches you fish. And as ofther have mentioned.. maybe try and pick up a flasher used?... If you lived closer to me Mike, I would let you test my Showdown to see if you liked it.

The CC still gets me fish, just not as often as it used to. I can't rely on it anymore.

Right now, I am torn between the Showdown and the Marcum VX-1. Both very comparable in price. I might head over to Gander or up to Reeds this weekend and really look em over. I like the fact that Nature Vision is here in town as well. Keeps my money not only in the US, but right in town as well. If you absolutely had to choose between the VX-1 and the Showdown, which would it be and why?

To be honest, I dont know. I dont see how you can go wrong with either... I have never fished with a VX-1... Although I have fished with MarCum products.. I own both a LX-5 and a LX-3 and really like them both... That said, I really like the Showdown as well...

Lucky for me I dont have to choose between them.. I wish you best of luck in your decision!... I'm sure no matter which you choose it will work well!

Hey Mike; Hope you check this out. Just to give you more to think about. This weekend at Cabela's you can get a Marcum LX2 for $229.00 (same as showdown) 1000 watts, bottom zoom, soft pack etc. Don't think you can beat that as far as bang for your buck for a flasher. If you can make it down to Rogers this weekend check it out. Might want to call ahead and put one on hold though. That's if you really want a flasher. If not I will say it again I would also give the showdown a thumbs up also.

    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
