FROZEN LIVEWELL...HELP!!!

Ok not my proudest moment....today I went to put my boat into storage....and low and behold this (Contact Us Please) forgot too drain the live well! Talk about ur stupid moves. The worst part is it was full of bait I also forgot about and stinks too high hell! My questions too u fellow fmers is what can i pour in there too thaw it out?? I need too get that stink out of there!! Please if there are any fellow (Contact Us Please) out there that are willing too share.....HELP!!!!!

A bucket of warm water, salt, and an ice pick. I wouldn't use any chemicals in case there are residual effects come spring. At least you found it now. How far is the drive to the storage place? Is there any hot water out there?

5 minute drive out there but its a big livewell and it would take alot of water. Was thinking more of a chemical then rinsing. ANY ideas??

I'll admit it I did the exact same thing, a couple of years ago. Lets just say it was a good thing the bait, and water froze solid, because I didn't find it until spring. I used hot water to melt the ice, and then drained it into pails, and got rid of it. I had a plastic livewell, and there was no damage done except to my ego. After the junk was all out I think I circulated a mixture of bleach, and water through the system to clean it out. Hope that helps.

hook a hose up to the lower valve on your hot water heater and melt it away....

I guess (Contact Us Please) when refered too ones self is not allowed! Thanks guys I guess salt n hot water and 6 gal buckets is what i will have to do!! Any other ideas????

Hair dryer will help speed the melt.

if you can borrow one!a heat gun for removing paint, runs much hotter than a hair dryer, and will cut the time it takes ! just be patient so you don't wreck anything ! del

Drive your rig to a friend's heated garage/shop with a case of good "barley pop" and keep it there overnight. Put a bucket at drain outlet.

Let your friend enjoy the beverage....

Whatever you do be sure to check the pump and lines next spring to see if they are cracked, or you might get some interesting leaks.

Can you access the outside of well? if so use heating pad and ice pick and remove in chunks,if the thaw can occur on outside the ice will release its grip on tank.and remove as frozen pieces,may cut down stink.

I suggest that you ask whoever does the work on your cars if the would allow you to leave the rig overnight in their garage.

Its going to take a lot longer than over night to thaw that block of ice Im guessing. Maybe a couple of gallons of cheap vodka would do the trick.

How about a floating stock tank heater from a farm supply store? They make ones that the heater is covered to protect whatever it's heating goo luck!

After you get the ice out, try dusting the well heavily with baking soda, a box or 2, and leave it until spring. Then wash thoroughly. The baking soda will help cut a lot of different odor problems, and possibly mildew too.
