Guest
I have been reading these posts almost daily and have viewed many posts and replies.I can see where moderators are needed on particular subjects...This is my spin on fishing.Vexilars-If you have used them for some time and fish a lot(or any other electronics) you will learn subtle differences that you will swear by.Fishhouses-Everyone has an opinion on this. First and formost is to look at one's fishing style and oppurtunities to go fishing. This explains the large variance of opionions of size and mobility.Catch and keep- I used to fish Mille Lacs 40-50 times a year-all year long. I decided a year ago that there were way to many politics and regulations to suite my tastes so instead of complaining I switched lakes and am having a good time.Anytime you have to go fishing-Go. Life can be short.Keep it fun and legal. Offer to take a kid fishing. They will remember that.Give a piece of your equiptment away for a good deal or free to someone who has not had a chance to have (been there, done that)Keep that auger a spinnin' and enjoy yourself... almosthaddabite
Good Post!!My fishing style is very different than lots of fisherman, but I have seen that others do just as well as I do.I never use the 'vex for crappies or walleyes. When fishing with buddies who use electronics I have seen no difference in amount of fish caught.I fish with a trap and use it only as a wind break.I pay very little attention to color.I don't think my way is "the way", but it works for me. As far as Mille Lac. Two years ago my wife boated 3 fish 27"+ in seven minutes. No way I can tell her we aren't fishing there 2-3 times a year. I live 75 miles north and wouldn't keep any fish anyway, and I don't have the will power to boycott the lake because of politics, however, respect your decision. Crawlerman
Here here! Differences are what make life interesting. I admit though.. I do tend to look down on people that like to buzz across the lake at 80 pushing a small 16-17' boat with a 150+ HP motor-- whats the hurry? 14' and 20HP works fine for me... As far as the Vex goes.. well.. I'd have one if they were about 1/2 the price. Right now if I had $300 to spend on Icefishing gear it'd go to a new 2 man and a heater/lantern. I do however have an OLD flasher I use-- it tells me everything I need to know and I picked it up at a Garage sale for $5. Over 20 years old and it STILL works great! My toy this year was my new strikemaster 2hp 8". It's been tricky getting used to using it, but should be easier now that we have some snow to help me brace myself with it. As far as C&R-- I do enjoy the taste of fresh fish, altough the bulk of my fish kept are panfish. Smaller Catfish outa clean water is the ultimate prize for me for food fish, and is a rare treat as it is tricky to get them out of the stocked lakes in the area due to park closing times and bullheads. I've fished Mille Lacs a few times and didn't mind the C&R thing.. I think I can easily catch fish around my house to eat-- and as I said.. Catfish remain my prized food fish.. not walleye
kslipsinker
Well stated. Work is for people who don't know how to fish!
Fishbitten
Hey crawlerman, in your own words difference's are a good thing. I have a 64MPH boat and love it I can cover a lot of water and some times beat bad weather. However when passing other boats(moving or fishing)I give a large birth or slow down! Please don't spank all of us. I've never complained when a canoe or paddle wheeler block a channel for minute's at a time we all have the right to enjoy our "Wild America" in our own way just don't "Tread on others". Crawlerman
eh.. It's just a personal opnion of mine I guess. Just my opnion. I didn't mean to sqaush any toes. I generally fish smaller lakes that takes even me only a few minutes to cross; (and I'm pulling 25-30) so the 65mph bus. is way overkill there. I can see where it would be useful on Mille Lacs, Minnetonka, or the River though.. but I still think 40 is plenty even on those. I guess yeah... I've just had too many bass boats decide to gun it right when there next to me, and having to brace myself on all fours to ride out the back wake formed from the intial "gunning". I'd much rather have a Boston Whaler 17' with a 60-90 hp on it (those are nice boats ) Than a 16' ranger with a 250. Again I'm pretty tolerant, but I just have a stong opnion on "the (un)need for speed"
