snare supports

Not sure what the current cable/snare restrictions are in MN, but how do you attach your cable to your snare support if you use them?

I do it two different ways one way is to take #14 wire and twist it so it is about 3 feet long after twisted(I use a cordless drill to twist) and attach to the snare this way.

This is the other way i do it (this is a large lock as it is a wolf snare but the same concept applies to other snares) Take #9 wire and wrap it around. The cable should go in the loop though, making them that way now.

I get ones that have a snare support or whammy is what i think they are called, then its a strand of #9 support wire. Just put the wire in the support and good to go.

Hunter the reason I do not use whammys is because then you are using wire to tie your snare off to something, and then another strand of wire to put in the whammy and have to spend time tieing that off to something. I find it much faster to have one wire, tie off, position and go. Less time at the set means less scent is there, and the ability to make more sets during the daylight.

fishermann222, how do you like that snare lock? Have you tried any other kind? I have been using the washer type for years.

I have used many different kinds of locks. Those Thompson locks on the wolf snares are the best for wolves because you can cut them with a hacksaw to "moose proof" them.

On my fox snares i like the surelocks, I have always had good luck with them as long as you load the snares well. If you don't really load the snare then they stink.

I have tried many different kinds and I am testing a few new ones this year. What i really look for is a fast lock when the snare is loaded, and one that does not bind up in the fur alot. I will let you know as the year goes on what I find out.
