Cpt. Fish
I have not done very much tip up fishing, and was thinking about setting some up this weekend. What size hooks are you guys using for pike and largemouth? Also what kind of line are you guys uising for the pike. Thanks in advance!

icehousebob
I like 20# braided dacron without the coating. It has less line memory than the coated line and comes off the spool smoothly but it does freeze when it's been soaked and then laid on the ice. For fishing northerns with large shiners, I make up leaders of 20# coated Berkley wire leader material and use 2/0 Eagle Claw 45auto bass worm hooks. They give me the highest percentage of hook sets of any hooks I've used. Good luck.
hattrk4me
I spool with the black braided line and tie on a 4-6' leader with 14-20# fireline. Hook---#2 or #4 Muto circle hook. the mutu will always lip hook a fish even in the bait was swallowed.
Steve Foss
I spool with 25lb Trilene, which has more stretch than the braids. I like stretch when hand-playing a fish, and 25 is very strong, so I don't have to worry about break-offs as much. When I need to go lighter for 'eyes or perch, I splice on a length of finer mono or fluorocarbon. When I'm piking, I use exclusively quick-strike rigs, and I'm tying them myself now. Sevenstrand wire in 30-lb test is very thin and hard to see. I use double hooks when I can get them, small trebles when I can't. Small hooks damage the live bait less, and are easier to set into the fish. Not sure how the double hooks are numbered, but I use No. 6 or 8 trebles.
