2005 Town & Country - 2 questions

LwnmwnMan2

Question

First, steering "clunk". Standing still, turn wheel 10th turn to the right, then turn it back to the left a 10th of a turn of 12 o'clock, "clunk".

Second, lights pulsate, not quite as bad as Honda motorcycles you see sometimes on the road, thinking they're a cop, but it's still noticeable, especially driving the car, the dash lights.

Van has 62k miles.

Any help would be appreciated.

Pulsating lights are almost always solved by replacing the battery.

Does the clunk sound like its coming from the inside or the outside. Left or right side of the vehicle. Does it only do it when your not moving? This could be caused by anything from the steering wheel forward. An experienced ear will be able to tell you what it is with out much of a problem. It could be something as simple as a loose rack or something major like a strut bearing.

Sorry airjer, you're right, I did not specify enough. I try to diagnose lawn issues, and you never get enough info from the person on the phone, forum. I should know better.

Sitting in the driver's seat, it sounds like it's coming from the left front, outside.

Also, it does it whether you're moving or not. I know my parents have had Chrysler mini vans since they first came out, and about 50k miles, their van started doing the same thing.

From looking "on the google" it sounds like bushings in the rack??? I've got to take it to my local friendly shop anyways for an oil change, I've got a leak somewhere as well that I can't find without getting underneath. Losing about a quart of oil every 3-4 weeks, or 1000 miles.

Some common things that cause clunks are stabilizer bar bushings and Stabilizer links. These are more commonly heard over bumps. I would't rule out a loose rack or bushings, like you mentioned either. I wouldn't rule out a possible strut bearing as well. Anybody body thats been in the business for a while should have no problem figuring out what it is!
