Bird IDs

This should be very easy, but I'm new to this and was just wondering around with my camera. I saw these Woodpeckers everywhere.

Griggs, nice captures. These are downy woodpeckers.

Thanks. Are they migrating through or something, because I saw so many of them...

No migration among downy woodpeckers. They are tough little birdies that can handle the rough winters up here.

I've seen gangs of three to seven of them out in the woods now and then, working together. My guess is if you've seen a group, it would be a couple parents with their young, which look like adults now but may not have dispersed.
