zachp
What flavor oil do you Yamaha users use? I have a F115 and am wondering if there are better alternatives to the yamalube. Also how often do you guys change spark plugs?
Scott K
I use the Yama lube, not saying it is the best, its what I use! As for changing plugs, every 3-4 years is about right, depending on use.
Water Hazard
I also use the Yamalube. I am on the second year with the original plugs in my F60.
Northlander
I run Amsoil in my Yamaha 115 4 stroke and if I didnt I would run the Yamaha oil. The Amsoil is nice as far as easy cold starts and longevity. I use it in my lower unit as well. As far as plugs mine get changed every year. zachp
Amsoil it is, I use it in my 3/4 ton chevy for engine oil and transmission fluid and am happy with it, I also have the air filter and after the amsoil treatment I increased my mileage by 2 mpg...Northlander,did you have to get the pump for the gear lube? All i see is quart bottles and no squeeze bottles.
Northlander
Yes I had to get a pump. Its way easier than trying to squeeze and then get the screws back in with greasy hands. Check out the Oilman here on FM. He sells Amsoil and may be able to save you some money.
LMITOUT
Just put in Yamalube today. I like to run what the manufacturer suggests...especially while it's under warranty. I also did the lower unit today and when you buy that pump for the quart bottle, you'll need the adapter since the end that comes on the pump is larger for a Mercury and possibly some other brands. I had the pump already that I used for my 60 Merc and found that the drain plug is much smaller on my Yamaha 90 4-stroke, so back to the shop I went to pick up the adapter. Water Hazard
The lower unit lube pump is definetly the way to go. After I bought my boat last summer, I tried on two different occasions to refill the lower unit with the squeeze tubes. I just ended up with a puddle of gear lube on my driveway and no idea how full the lower unit was. I purchased a pump with four different adapters included. One of them fit my Yamaha and I haven't had trouble since. It is worth the ~$15!
