Where to put the robo duck

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I have had a robo duck for a few years now. I love it. I have never used it in the field though. I usually hunt the water the first half of the season. Then I move to the field to hunt geese after the corn is cut. I typically set up my geese in a U shape. I know that they scare the geese. So I will be taking it down when there is geese around. Where would you place the robo in the U pattern. Typically I sit on the landing spot closest to the bottom of the U. I just thought I would try to pull a few ducks in. I hear the robo's are deadly in the field.

I have found that they don't bother geese if they are shut off. Put the Robo right behind your blind so you can shut it off when you hear or see geese.

I have had mallard try to land on me with the Robo just behind my head.

Good Luck.

if you have any duck deks in the field with you, try putting the rodo duck maybe a foot off the ground or less. put it right in the middle of the duck deks. do that and then put a wind spinner on the outside of the spread about 3 feet up. it has proven to work great for me and you could even uses more than one on the ground.

This is my typical setup right now. So you would place the robos behind the blinds towards the pocket. Would you put some duck decoys in with the robos between the blinds and the pocket of geese. Or would you put the ducks somewhere else? Or can you just get away with just having the robo duck, and no duck shells?

First I would put my blinds back in the pocket of decoys so the geese focus on the decoys and not the blinds. I find that a lot of the time geese look for the call and fly toward the sound of the call. If they see the blinds they are out of there.

Put the Mojo or Robo behind you with some field shells if you have them. Water decoys will work but shells with stakes sit higher and look more natural. I would say a minumum of a dozen ducks on the outside of your goose spread would do the trick. Ducks look for other ducks to land with.

I always keep my ducks to the outside of the geese. If you watch ducks and geese trying to land at the same time. ducks will generally wait until the geese are on the ground before they land. Then they usually land just outside of the geese. If you want you can use the ducks on one side of the spread. This only allows one or two of your guys good shooting when the ducks come to one side of the spread.

Don't worry if the duck decoys are 10 to 20 yards from Robo.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck

Todd
