hey everyone we need help we are coming out to minnesota for a fishing contest and we would also like to find a place to do some top notch walleye fishing while out there..we have been looking at places that rent sleeper shanties we want to spend a weekend on the ice any ideas? we will be out there feb 1 for our contest on forest lake and we live in michigan so we are trying to find something sorta of north east kinda of on the way home but we are not opposed to driving...any help would be appriciated thank you tjstebb

thank you aall for info i am going to continue to look at every option, so anymore info is hepful...i am from traverse city..also is beginning of feb good walleye fishing out there?

update: we are seriously looking at dickies portside in isles anyone having any feedback for us on this. they sound very nice on the phone and very helpful and rates are very reasonible.. thanks again tjstebb

ok we booked with dickies for the first of feb. and rick i will tell what you said..i thank everyone who helped in our decision.but i do have another question for all you helpful people. here in michigan we do alot of jigging with swedish pimples and use alot of tip ups for walleyes..we really want to catch some nice eyes so what would you all suggest we bring with us or use for baits and jigs?

You shouldn't go away disappointed getting a chance to fish Mille Lacs. It will be an experience you won't forget. Make sure you have film in your camera! It's quite a sight, seeing complete "Ice Shanty Towns" on the ice, especially on those crystal clear nights!
Just so you know, based on your original post, there isn't much Minnesota left "northeast, on the way home..." of Forest Lake (since you're only minutes from the Wisconsin border), however, there are some GREAT fishing lakes right in the Forest Lake area...(check out the Lindstrom area lakes...) --Andy
