winch

I just noticed on my winch that the piece that locks into the teeth of the winch is wore out. So now it doesn't take a lot of pressure for it to come unlocked so to speak. Can I just replace this small piece (or have it fixed by a welder) or do I need to get a new winch? Any suggestions would be welcomed. Glad I put on a safety chain in case the locking mechanism comes loose.
