having my shotgun and bow?

i know the rule is you cannot be in possesion of a firearm while bow hunting this is my question/dilemma

i might drive a couple hours to go hunting and dont know what to hunt for either duck and geese or DEER.

i was wondering if i leave my shotgun in my truck and go in with my bow is it still in possesion ill have no slugs with me or anything like that.

My take on the regulation is that while out actively persuing deer you cannot have a bow and shotgun on your person but one or the other on your person is fine. having the shotgun in your truck doesn't count towards having one in possesion while actually hunting in the field.
