Lunker
I have a question about my hand auger. I have an 8"new one, and one i drill my hole, it is fine. Except at the bottom of the hole it doesn't cut right. Itr leaves only about 5 inches of the 8 but only at the very bottom, and not in a circle. Its rough ice jutting into the hole. Whats the problem? Guest
I know what your talking about doing the hard push down and up to clean your hole out but be careful if you bought the cheaper hand auger with a larger cutting hole!I dont remember the name of the hand auger but it had a 8" cutting blade on a 6 or 7" auger. When I pushed down and pulled back up it would snap the blades off!So if the blades stick out over a 1/4" from the auger I'd be carefull!Bad me it took me two times to figure it out as to what happened($24 later!)------------------cal
Guest
Try plunging your auger up and down a few times in the hole before you pull it out...This also helps get most of the slush and ice chips out.PCG
Surface Tension
Thats right. Your hand auger will leave a ridge after you punch through. Just give it a push and the auger will knock the rest off.
Pig_sticka
seems like your drilling until u start to see water come up, just keep drilling alittle bit until your all the way through then plunge it. i have never had a problem with my hand auger holes. 8 inch is always tough though later on in the year. 6 inch is best for hand auger if you want bigger i would just get a power auger.------------------Good luck sticking pigs this year!
