Ranger sport
I caught two largemouth bass on Sunday that had big black spots on them. Has anyone seen this before? Is this a disease or something?
Fever
Where at? I have seen this on fish from Cedar near Annandale, Clear water, Waconia, and Howard. It is just pigmentation. Nothing wrong with them what so ever. I think it becomes a tad more prevalent when waters begin to cool as well. I've posted pics of some of mine... check them out by clicking back on some of my posts. See if its the same.
Ranger sport
Thanks Fever. They came from a lake in Victoria.
HellaBass
I have seen black spots on many largemouth as well, I have heard the same thing, that it is not harmful, kind of like a birth mark almost.
EBass
Yup I've caught some with those markings to. Kinda cool, as it makes the fish unique. Some even have those markings in their mouth. Even smallies have them. And maybe even a pike or two
tfsh4bass
I was actually told by a Missouri Department of Conservation agent (and heard KVD say the same thing on a fishing show) that anytime you catch bass with the black patches on them the lake you are fishing usually has a very high and healthy population of bass. Of course neither gave any explanation as to why that is the case but I thought it was interesting.
