Devils Lake ice fishing giudes

Recommended Posts

I'm planning an Ice fishing trip for 8-10 guys in the last weekend of February. We want to stay in some sleeper houses but are also bringing some portables to do some mobile fishing during the day. A few of the guys want to do a day of guided fishing but not everyone has the money for that so I was wondering if there were any guides that did a half day rate?

Everything I've found online was a full day only and it seemed like they were really catering to people that haven't ice fished before. We don't need anyone to bait our hooks and take the fish off for us. Ideally we just want to be pointed in the right direction to find some fish and if we have to provide a little $$ we are fine with that. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Adam

I would suggest you check out this site as they have the lodging and one of the best guides on Devils lake. One might be able to work out a half day package.

One could also check out jason Mitchell. http://www.jasonmitchellrods.com/

Both of these guides would serve you well and may also have different packages that might work for what you are looking for.

Thanks for the suggestions Harvey lee! I will definitely check them out.

Do you need a shelter tag for portable houses in ND? Can we bring in a 4 wheeler or snow mobile from out of state and do we need any special licenses on them?

Thanks again,

Adam

ND GNF does not require a license on permanents or portables - name and address for anything left on the ice overnight I believe - but check out Harvey's link above for the official word.

On the snowmobile question - check out this link: ND Snowmobile Permit

With respect to Guides - check out the link harvey posted above - they do a good job, and Jeff posts fairly regular reports on Devils Lake ice fishing here.

Hi Adam,

I dont know of anybody on Devils Lake that does half day guiding or what we used to call the tag along package. We got away from the tag along package because as you know every lake is different and we like to see people use our equipment and we can be there to make sure there arent any problems. The perch bite on Devils Lake changes daily and we find ourselves at times up to 20 miles away from the spot we were the previous day. My suggestion would be that if some of the guys want to go guided for a day thats an excellent idea. Its a good way to find out what lures and baits are working best, what depths to fish, and what areas have been producing the best catches. I hope I helped answer some of your questions and I hope you visit our HSOforum. Good luck, and we hope to hear from you!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
