panhead
Thanks for all the input on using a gas kicker for shallow night fall trolling. Now I need to learn the lakes in the area I fish better so as to not consistantly snag.Knowing that its me doing something wrong and not the kicker spooking the fish will help my learning. Having some confidence in what your trying to get better at helps.
whippingpost
I'm going to give this new braided line from Stren a try this year. It is a cool blue color, and lights up like a light bulb when you shine a black light on it. Hopefully it should be a little easier to see for the night time wally crankin'. RookieEye
Hello Everyone! As you can see, I will be a "first timer" to Leech Lake this weekend. My neighbor and I are staying at Grand Vu lodge on Pointe and I need some pointers...so to speak. Looks like the weather is going to be ideal as well(full moon next Wednesday!) I have read that the eyes have it right now and are doing well. It seems that where we are staying is a good bet for some nice fish. Can any Veteran of Leech give me some advice on night fishing Leech? Shallow weeds, dropoffs etc? I appreciate any and all help as I more excited about this coming week than anyone can imagine! I have worked for this opportunity for a long time and would like to make it a memorable one! Thanks,TC
tweedlap
Welcome RookieEye,Grand Vu is on Pine Point. It sounds like that is one the places the eyes are biting. Pull raps in 5'to 10'.All of the points in the area are usually good fall spots:Ottertail, Sugar, Little and Big Hardwood.Check out the Leech Lake forum. The narrows is near there, too, and it sounds like the perch are really in there. Also, try a jig and minnow on those same points. It is better if the wind is blowing onto the points.Good Luck and gives us a report when you get back.tweed
HAppnhook
Planer boards work great to get in shallow without spooking the fish using kickers or main motors but are a little tougher to work in the dark.
