funfisher
I'm new to this, guys, but could someone tell me if they know how fishing is on Ten Mile Lake near Hackensack? If you've had good luck, time of day, presentations that work, etc. Heading up there on Wednesday of next week, and it appears I'll be fishing in some cold weather! Many thanks for any advice you may have - both for using this forum properly and for fishing!
Team Otter
Welcome to FM! I'm sure someone will be able to steer you in the right direction. Please update the group when you return from your trip.
Scott M
Be prepared for lots of recreation, well actually, scratch that since summer is for most intents and purposes over. Still, this lake does get a lot of use. And it's crystal clear. Try longlining cranks at night. There is a good amount of structure around. The waters probably still on the warmer side. Don't know if this cooler weather will help or hurt you. Stop in at Swansons and get the scoop.
funfisher
Thanks guys! I should elaborate - my family and I have been fishing Ten Mile for over 30 years. My father is 84, and not much for night fishing. Unless Jim Tuller is working, not much info on the lake is available at Swanson's. Got my best tips from a lady working in the women's department at Reeds last year!
Scott M
You should be giving us tips! If you're willing to try Leech while you're up there you might be able to do well out there for walleyes. They've quietly had a really nice bite up there this summer. They got a bunch of attention for the governors opener and I haven't heard much since. But the fall is a great time to pick up a few up there. Reed's has a couple good guys usually working behind the back counter. I forgot their names, but they'll point you in the right direction for Leech.
funfisher
Sorry about that! Mostly was looking for recent fishing reports. Great idea about Leech - Kevin and Craig at Reeds fish it all the time, and have provided great intel on occasion (I think they might be the names you were looking for). Never know when you might run into Gary Roach in Reeds too. I know wind is best on Leech, but my Dad would probably enjoy fishing it on a nice day. I think that Lower Ten Mile Lake Road may be paved now, since it was torn up for paving on my Spring trip in June. Used to arrive with half the screws in my boat loose after driving all those washboard miles.
markkstanley
I know a couple of guys who fish Ten Mile all year. They drift minnows this time of year. I have fished with them and they do well during the day. They claim the night bite is not as good as the day. Key on the steep shoreline drops to 20ft or so. Not at liberty to be more specific but a quick look at a good map should do it.
funfisher
Thanks for the tip on shoreline drops. 20 Feet has always been a "magic" depth, but I think I have been out too far fishing more gradual drops at the 20' mark. I'll give it a good shot, and let you know how it worked out.
funfisher
Hi, Folks! Sorry about the late report, but I just had surgery, and am typing with one hand...weather was downright wicked while I was on Ten Mile, and mostly fished in high winds, rain and even fog. A couple of days could not even get off the dock! Winning ticket turned out to be creek chubs bought at an exorbitant price on Fuzz E Grubs. Black with green during low light and chartreuse the remainder. Caught numerous 'eyes too large to keep (horrible problem, eh?) and a few eaters for meals. Jim Tuller provided a marked lake map, and although they weren't "jumping in the boat" it was a successful trip to God's Country. Caught a lot of northerns too. Many times bait would come back to the boat with the hindquarters bitten off. Thanks to all for your advice!!
MidCoast
Ten mile lake is a good walleye lake... Usually, I either jig shiners or just troll rapalas deep runners.. I do pretty well with that...
