B@ssDoctor
My buddy has a 115 mercury (around 2000) and is having an gas/throttle issue. The motor runs fine while idle, but when he hits the throttle, it bog's down, sputters and then eventually dies. I know there are a ton of these motors out there, so I am hoping someone will chime in. I know the problem description is pretty vague and could be related to a bunch of different scenarios (filter, plugs, etc). Any information would be helpful.... Lund4Fish
I owned a 1992 version of this motor and ran it for 13 years before trading it off and it never missed a beat. If I had to guess from the information you've written I'd guess it's a fuel problem: either a plugged fuel filter, clogged carburator or maybe even a pin hole in the fuel line or bulb. That's where I'd start looking anyway. Good luck.
sparkyaber
I have a friend that has a '03 merc 115 four stroke that is running poorly also. If I find out what is wrong with his, I will pass it along.
marine_man
It sounds to me like a fuel problem, or at a minimum where I'd start. Make sure the primer bulb is firm and pumps up good - if it's been a couple years since it was replaced it might be a good thing to replace anyway. The next thing I would do is think about a carb rebuild / cleanout - it sounds to me like dirty carbs. If he / she hits the choke the same time he tries to go to full throttle, does it pick up?marine_man
