pbowhunter
I found an old rattle reel in my basement. it seems like it would be good to set up in my ice shak with a minnow for walleyes while i jig for them. SO my question in does anybody use them and do they like them. Thanks

Pig_sticka
stick with ur rods, i only use the rattle reel when it is in a permanent house and i want to be really lazy. if ur sitting there jigging and moving the bobber around dont mess with the rattle reel. if u take a nap then put one down otherwise nah. it is more fun reeling the pigs in anyway. keep it on da reel. S.D. Ice Angular
I use one quite often in my "Clam 6800" especially when in South Dakota I normally have one “Rattle Real” one maybe two “Tip-Ups” and then jig a rod or two…
Guest
There is absolutly nothing inadequate about rattle reels. If we're not jigging in our permanent, Theres a rattle reel set up. Although, There are some that are better than others. You need something: Loud, Adjustable, and has a largeg radius. Loud, Cause they wake you up when theres a 29 inch sow at the other end. Adjustable, cause its important that you set it juuuuuuust right, So that the initial momentum of the fish' strike will keep the wheel spinnin. Its best to have one with a large radius so that it can be set very sensitive. Bigger radius=more leverage=more fish. Hows that for elaborating I find rattles to be even more effective than staring at bobbers. If you're in a permanent, in a bobber situation, use rattle reels. woodman
I have four of them mounted to my ceiling in my 8x12 house. I put on fly fishing line and 6 feet of regular line for tying. There are great for when you are playing around or doing some homework in the shack. Woodman
