Pops & I went out Sat afternoon for a few hrs and fished the windward side. There wasn't much wind, and the water clarity is really pretty good considering the summer we have had. Our mono lines didn't even get green from algae.

I don't know if it was coincidence that we found the fish or that the wind came up about 5mph but the bite came on like a light switch and we were done like that. Very nice fish. cool.gif

I went to Dry#2 Sun morn we put in on the west side under much protest from myself, but my bud said he wanted to try the weed beds on the N side because his other bud gotem there the day before. Well the wind blew like a hurricane all day out of the South all day and I suggested we drift for some Eyes. The other two protested and wanted to keep fighting wind and cast into the salad bowl for another hr. That lasted for about 15min and then they decided to give a drift a try. The first drift we caught a fat 13 and a half incher. It wasn't enough to convince them to give it a second drift. They wanted to go to Thompson and fight the big water, wind and waves. I was just along for the ride so I just shut up and fished. We caught dinker eyes, got soaked, and I got all my fillings jarred loose on the 50mph ride over white caps in the Ranger. It's Tuesday and I still can hardly sit down. Every bone in my body aches. It was a bad day all around. frown.gif

But It was still great to be fishing with my buddy I hadn't seen for 2 yrs.

I am now a permanent resident again of SD. Back to God's Country. smile.gif

percherman, great to hear it. Actually, good to hear from somebody on this thread. I was beginning to think that my computer was broke. Can't wait to get to Thompson again. This fall will be great. Got to have that wind on that lake. Good to hear that it isn't that green either. That always kills the confidence.

How big are the swimbaits you are throwing this time of year? Big or small? Interesting. I always thought they may be a post spawn bait. Thanks for the info. I may try to get there in two weeks and will post.

Actually I generally don't use swim baits until after the spawn either but the fish were biting so well figured it would be interesting to find out if they would hit them or not with the cold water temps. WHat do ya know they ate the 5" swimbait right up. That was before the coldfront and now they are back to hitting the jig and minnow combination. shouldn't be long and they should pick up again!

Find moving water also and they seem to bite better before dark.
