Boss Hogg
Monday we are leaving for Alaska. Our route will take us from Dawson Creek to Watson Lake then up through the Campbell range, into Dawson city. Then over to Alaska. I traveled that route many years ago. At times we will need to stop and rest/camp. What problems could we run into, camping in remote areas? I was told that camping permits may be needed. If so, how do we get them??? traveler
I'm jealous:) In Ontario you can get crown land camping permits at many bait stores, and no doubt at some offical office. Also by mail, I think. Are you going to be just doing overnites along the road? If so, I'd think you could take advantage of campgrounds along the way, or just set up late/leave early and not expect much trouble. You'll be crossing thru several provinces and I assume they'd each have thier own system for camping permits. I'd be interested to see how it goes, friends are looking to do this in a couple years and we might just join them:)
Boss Hogg
Got back a couple weeks ago. We just stopped and camped when it got that time of the day. There are campgrounds along a lot of the way, but if we couldn't find one, we just camped. Not much else we could do. Most of the organized campgrouds were near empty or closed down. After Watson Lake, up the Cambell Highway., we would only see another vehicle about every 100 miles. Never did find out if permits were required in the Yukon or BC. Couldn't find anybody to ask.
