carpshooterdeluxe
whatever you are comefortable shooting. if you have a favorite deer rifle, just bring that along. if your looking to buy something specifically for varmits, you will get 1000 different answers. .223 is probably the most common caliber, hundreds of rifle configurations for this cal, including all the ar-15 variants. i personally shoot a .22-250 ruger m77 with a scheels 4-12 variable power 42 mm scope. but have taken yotes and fox with everything from a .22 loaded with stingers, .243, .270, 7.62x39mm sks, and 7mm mag. the important thing is to not get caught up in all the varmit rifle hype and buy something with a lot of stuff you might not need. any flat shooting tight grouping rifle in any caliber with a solid scope will kill a coyote just as good as a custom stocked, heavy barreled scope so big you can see armstrongs steps on the moon rifle. roosterslayer
I agree with what carp stated, i think the 223 is the most affordable and it is what i use, but you could easily use anything from the .17 rem to the 30-06. or if they are close just use your shotgun with #4 buckshot or hevi-shot BB, or dead coyote loads. most shotgun loads are effective out to 60 yards but i prefer to keep it to about 40.
