Canyon lake - Blyth's Canyon Lake Lodge

Recommended Posts

A friend and I are going up to Canyon Lake in September to chase muskies at Blyths Canyon Lake lodge. Has anyone been to this Lake or resort and have any opinions or information they wouldn't mind sharing?

One of my favorite lakes ever...Expect lots of follows with fish all over the place. Clearer water...fish early fish the evening, but there can be an afternoon bite in the sand. Small bucktails, topwater, bulldawgs can be the ticket

Little mouse told me that perch colored lures tolled around dawn and dusk over the bait fish were producing a few also. This was a report from someone who was up there last weekend. I'm going to McIntosh lodge but i would be interested to find out how Blyths is also. I stayed at North Country and I think owner ship was changing, around five years ago, lodging was nice and owners nice but the boats and equipment were way out of date. To small of boats and to small of equipment, so this time bringing a bigger boat bigger net and the right backup (fishing buddy). Also I have had three years of fishing on Ealge to get a little better. I will post when I come back on the 27th of August.

Boys...in the second LARGE bay down that extends to the north part of the lake ( not Outlet Bay where Blyths is), there are some Giants boulders that are well out of the water on a small point....We call this spot "Monsters Inc" for reasons I am sure you can imagine...Have fun

Fishing was tuff last week, 55+ hours of muskie fishing and only two fish boated. One 28" and a 36", we trolled rock piles, and casted rocks/weeds. Quite a few little ones were moving but the big girls were hiding and did not want to come out to play. We found that when the fish were on they would hit top waters and hair. We had about 8 more fish on all below 42" but they seamed to jump and roll etc. throwing the hooks (both new and sharpened). Outlet bay, canyon bay and the falls were the most active for fish but it sounds like they move up a lot shallower during sept. when you will be at blyths. Walleyes were consistant and on for the whole week, wind blowen points and the steep rock sides to the tracks along the narrow sections of the lake were all good areas. use the depth finder and look for clouds of bait fish (ciscos) then fish 28-32 feet around them.

with two stops of about 45 min it took just over 10 hours. The eyes were biting on crawlers, make sure to use a bottom bouncer to get the bait up a little, seams like rigs longer then 4 feet but shorter then 6 were the best route. The faster we moved the bigger the fish (as long as you could keep your bait down).

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
