Heading up to Kab mid week and was woundering were a good place to start for some smallies would be? any info would be apreciated.

I'm staying at Father Hennepin this weekend. Anyone have tips on how to catch smallies in August on Mille Lacs? I'll probably stay on the SE side of the lake.

Should I just hit the various rock piles with different presentations?

I'm hoping to get on a topwater bite early in the morning. My father-in-law has never caught a smallie and I want to break him in the right way.

They have signs that say "Fish for smallies here" posted on the bouys that mark the rock piles...j/k about the signs but the rocky reefs are a great place to start.

Yeah, I followed those signs the last time out and got zero. It was earlier in the year though and I don't think the fish were shallow yet.
