Lake Trout HELP

I am going to the Boundary Waters next summer and want to try to catch some lake trout. I fish for stream trout and have never tried going after lake trout. What type of rod and reel? What pound test line? What type of lures to catch them? We are going to be around Saganaga Lake. Any help would be useful. Thanks

I like to try fly fishing for them in the spring when they are shallow but when they go deep i like jigging buzz bombs, spoons, big bucktails, or tubes over structure. you can also troll spoons or cranks with in line weights or dipsys. I like to try to get down around 30 ft when trolling.

At this time of year I would think the lakers will be deeper than 30 feet.In Canada we fish as deep as 300 feet depending on the lake.c63Hope this helps some.(not trying to be a smart -ss)
