I just talked to my brother and said "I'm going to buy a new vexilar tomorrow morning - do you want in". He says "why would I want to waste money on that, who wants to sit and stare at a line of blinking lights".

What kills me is that he blew about $150 on an aquaview last year???????????

Guess who's gonna be laughing this winter when I outfish him.

Wait till he sees you watch that tell tale little flicker of your lure float through the auto zoom only to meet a much bigger light come up to SLAM it as you get a big ole grin on your face and lift out a big slab.
I would be willing to bet that you guys will not make it through 1 fishing session together without him asking to have you throw it in the hole he is fishing from.
Keep us posted.
HA HA!

I'll keep you posted.
Knowing him like I do, he'll be more interested in the unit than I am when I get it home.
Still doesn't change the fact that I won't let him take much more than a peek at it the 1st time out.
The funny part is - I'm the younger brother so I shouldn't know more than him. HE HE
we'll see this year!

Sorry, I started this morning out in a negative mood, thought I was going deer hunting until the wife informed me otherwise because she had to work. Anyway, I don't get the whole aqua view thing, yeah I have looked through them on the ice and the are a well built neat toy but, I just can't see spending good money on something that is JUST a toy. My vexilar allows me to be a better fisherman...my buddies who have aquaveiws can keep the kids entertained with it but that's all.

Well take big Bro out night fishing and sit there and say.

"Oh..Oh..Did ya see that?"

After he go's half blind from trying to see the fish in the dark on his camera then maybe Big Bro will see the worth of the Vex as a tool, not a toy.

I don't understand how you guys can say that an Aqua-Vu is just an expensive toy that doens't help you catch fish. Don't get me wrong, I have a vexlar FL18, and My father and I started usuing Sitex units when I was in Junir High school which was almost 20 years ago, we were using locators on the ice before I had seen anybody else. I wont fish without my Vex now... HOWEVER, to say that an Aqua-Vu is just an expensive toy is borderline ignorant. Its a tool much like light line, the proper lure, the vex, the fish house. In the hands of someone not sure how to use it, I can see it just being an expensive toy... But to someone who uses one to thier advantage to find what they are looking for under the ice, that they can't see with their eyes is very valuable.

I dont always set it up to watch fish bite, but I do use it to get familiar with what the bottom conditions are, how tall the weeds are, how thick they are, how big the rocks are ect...

Believe it or not I was fishing a rock bar on Mille Lacs last year. There were 10" perch sucked to the bottom between rocks that my FL18 in zoom mode never picked up, without the camera telling me they were there, I may have left and not caught them fish.

Keep you mind open folks.

That's a good point. I just can't help comparing looking through that aqua-view on LOW to watching scrambled porn. You know something good is happening but you just can't really see it that well! I'll let him watch the aqua-view and I think i'll be happier with the vex.

LOW isn't the best of all places to try an
underwater camera. The first ones didnt
work at all in the deep water. The latest
Aqua Views will deliver the goods (somewhat).
No manufacturer is bragging about how good their camera works on Lake of the Woods.

wallydiver,
in my opinion you are better served with the Vex for everyday ice fishing. No doubt. Get a Vex before considering a Vista Cam.

It's true the Vista cam is great entertainment. It is also a great learning tool. You can actually see what is down there. You can also see what your jigging pattern looks like down 20" and you can see the affect it has on the fish.

You would be amazed at how often fish are down there just staring at your offering. You can see how they react when you pull it away, or drop it, or lightly jiggle it. You can also see those fish sitting tight to the bottom in rocks that the Vex doesn't show you. It's an awesome learning tool, especially when used in conjunction with your Vex.

Again, please don't mistake the fact that the Vex is a much better tool and wallydiver, your brother will be begging to use yours or out getting his own.

Enjoy the edge while you can. Your story made me laugh. I had the same situation when the vex 1st came out (it wasn't called the vex then). My brother-in-law told me it was a useless piece of junk on the ice and he wouldn't buy one. He was a stubborn, prideful guy. So many nights out crappie fishing outfishing him 10-1. Pure stubborness and pride kept him from getting his for over a month. Of course, by then he had to use mine and was swearing by it.

Well, I went and bought one. I looked at them all and decided on the new Marcum LX-3. It looks like a nicer display, can locate more than one fish at a time and I also like the ability to zoom in on not just the bottom but also suspended fish. Now I can't wait to actually use it on the ice instead of my living room.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
