Prop suggestions for Suzuki DF140 needed

Just picked up my new (2006) Alumacraft T. Pro 175 with Suzuki DF140. If anyone out there runs the same or similar rig, what props have you found best performance with and what kind of RPMs are you running at WOT?? I'm just starting the break-in period, so it will be a while before I can see/ feel what my 14X18 SS prop that came with the rig does. Thanks in advance.

I know that iffwalleyes on the boards here runs a 140 Suzuki w/a 1775 pro v, so the rigs are fairly similar. He was running a 23 pitch aluminum, but is in the process of switching to a 21 pitch aluminum to get some better hole shot with more than one person in the boat.

Based on that, and your total load I'd say you're going to be close... a 20 might be a better fit than a 18, but you won't know for sure until you try it. Be sure to watch your max rpm's at wide open.

The reason these are taking a higher pitch prop is the ratio in the gear case is different than most conventional motors - the suzuki is a 2.59:1 and most merc are around 2.07:1.

marine man,

thanks for the reply. I started the "breaking in" last nite and after a few hours was allowed to let her loose. The 14x18 shot me out of the whole, but I was going over the max 6200 rpms at WOT. Gonna try a 20" over the w/e.

dinkadunk,

thanks for the reply. I'm assuming your happy with that set-up. What kind of whole shot, RPM and speed do you get at WOT with that?? Also, how much does that boat weight??

I'm not a speed freak, myself, but would like to know if I do put the throttle down, I'm not going to over-rev my motor.

I would suggest a Suzuki stainless prop and they come in odd number pitches (i.e. 17, 19, 21, 23, etc). I think you probably are going to need a 21 pitch for that rig or you are going to over rev. I have a 150 Suzuki on a 20 foot boat and I run a 15x21 pitch.

Yeah,Mille Lacs,

That's what I was kinda thinking & hoping for with the research I've been doing. I'm not a prop expert, just enough knowledge to be dangerous, I think. I'll see how the 20" does this w/e.

I have a 23 pitch aluminum prop on a lund 17 fisherman and the wot is 5800 at about 45-46 m.p.h. in perfect conditions with me and a smaller guy in the boat with the boat dry as far as wells. I would say with the aluminum your hole shot lags but stills gets skiers up in a jiffy. strong motor!

I run the Suzuki 14x20 on my 140 behind a Stratos 386. It runs WOT at 6000 RPM and is a great all around performer for my set-up. I tried a few different 13.25 diameter props but could never get any to work well with the motor. The Suzuki's gear ratio really needs the larger diameter prop.

Thanks for all the replies. The 14x20 works great.

It is a Suzuki prop. Mille Lacs guy, it's the aluminum props that come in the odd numbers. I thought it was the SS ones, too.

I haven't got to run on smooth water yet, but going "with" a pretty good chop I was around 6000-6100 RMPS and 42MPH at WOT for about 10 secs. Numbers probably go up a bit on "glass" and with a bit more time. Anyways, very happy with the 14x20 SS prop. Trolled down and got out of the hole nicely, also.
