Guest
Hey guys, whats your tricks for catching the big boys? I'm a die hard Lake Trout fisherman but sometimes I just Can't seem to get them to bite. I fish in the 65 to 85 ft. range with tube jigs tiped with sucker meat.I use my vexilar with a 9 degree tranducer so I can see them pretty good, but some days I just can't trigger a bite. I switch colors and jiggen methods, but no luck, whats going on?? and please don,t say thats just fishing,I alreadey know that. Ha Ha!!!
Steve Foss
Hey cube: Welcome to the family. You'll get some good advice here. But check out the boards for Grand Rapids and for BWCA-Duluth area and scroll back through the last month or two. There are a bunch of laker threads there that contain real tips, locations, lures, etc. Good luck.
Guest
Ice Cube,Try an Airplane jig or a Flyer tipped with the back end of a minnow. Work the jig about 10 feet off bottom with 3 foot pumps. After you lift, drop back to orignal position right away so the jig darts back down in a circular motion which resembles a dying minnow (irresistable to most cautious lakers). If this doesn't work try lowering the jig slower. Most of the strikes will come as the bait is dropping or just settles. This method should also attract lakers in the sorrounding area. This approach worked well for me up on Whitefish Bay. Where are you fishing? The lake type could also make a difference in presentation. Good Fishin, Matt. REEFRAKER
Try a jigging rapala about 3" long. White and chartruse. Change the trebble hook to one size bigger. Put crappie minnow on trebble hook and then just jig. With this jig we get more hits but we lose more fish too,but we end up with more on the ice. Don't forget to try right under the ice. chunkytrout
I agree with reefraker. My biggest mistake at first was going as deep as possible. The lakers will be where the food is so check your water conditions and weather carefully. Those are to main clues.
