GPS Chip

I just ordered my H2Oc and I am PUMPED... No more eTrex for me but I have to say it never let me down. Now I have to figure out what is the best chip. I live in the Western Part of the UP right by Hurley, WI. I fish Wis, Minn, and Michigan. IS there a chip that will cover most of that area?

COME ON ICE.....

I am not sure which chip covers what area, but it sounds that you do. I currently have the navionics and lake master five foot contours chips and make do. Some people swear by the 1 foot contours? I have never been with any one that has had them, so I do not know if they are worth the extra money. I like both the lake master chip and the navionics chip. As far as I can tell neither one is more accurate than the other? I admittedly have the 2nd to oldest Navionics chip so they may have improved them? They both do the trick, darn accurate most of the time, but admittedly gas has been wasted figuring out where the structure is. So I guess the question lies if you want to spend more money for the more in depth charts (which are probably more accurate?). If money wasn't an issue, I would probably spend it. I think it is only about 70 dollars more. I could be wrong on that though?

I have the H20c and the '06 Navionics chip. I actually like the look of the Lakemaster more (shades of blue) and have heard it sometimes has better detail on the HD lakes(recently surveyed). Lakemaster also has city street detail included which would seem quite handy. The Navionics HD detail is pretty good also however.

The downside for me was that of the ~ 20 lakes I fish in Hubbard/Cass, only a handful are included in even 5 ft contours in Lakemaster. They are all on the Navionics, and thus my decision was easy. No roads show up at all on Navioncs, so you have to switch back to the Lowrance base map for that.

Good to have competition and you really won't be disappointed with either one.

If I were you, and if both of the chips had the lakes you want, get the one that has the most enhnced (3', 1' countours) and get that one. I can't speak for which one is better because I've only ever used Lakemaster and love it but the two should be comparable.

Regular Maps (nonenhanced) will give a rough outline of the lake and structure like the maps the DNR provides where as the enhance give greater precision with a strong GPS lock and gives you an Idea of what is in that particular body of water.
