You cant go by the year, you have to check on the Serial number, and then check with Mercury. I am guessing it will have to be 89 or newer to do what you want. I have an 87 that I am getting worked on, and I have to look up the guy in the Twin Cities to get his number for you, he is very good. Will get back to you later.
