88 or 89 merc powerhead

I just bought a 25 hp mercury motor. I think it's a 88 or maybe a 89. It's needs a new block. Can anyone tell me what years will interchange with this block? Does anyone know where I can find one?

You cant go by the year, you have to check on the Serial number, and then check with Mercury. I am guessing it will have to be 89 or newer to do what you want. I have an 87 that I am getting worked on, and I have to look up the guy in the Twin Cities to get his number for you, he is very good. Will get back to you later.

does anyone know if there is a HSOforum that gives info on serial #'s? like if I type the vin # in it will tell me what year it is?
