Hi all,

I'm curious about Lake Wissota. I've never fished in WI, mostly MN and CA.

1. Can I bring my registered boat from MN and put it in WI waters? If so, what do I need to do to be legal?

2. What kind of fish are in Wissota and is it worth bringing my boat across state line?

3. Are there any resorts/camping places that rents out boats on Wissota? If so, can someone point me in the right direction?

4. If I get a 2 day license for WI, do I need to do anything special for my boat too?

Thanks.

Howdy,

Quite sure registration wise you're fine, you just need to check WI regs to see if anything is diff from MN: lights, vests, fire ext., etc.

There is a real nice state park on Wissota for camping - all the info you need would be on WI DNR HSOforum.

Fishing is pretty good. Plenty of muskies, northerns also but generally on the small side. Smallmouth are numerous and largemouth are not as plentiful but there are some nice ones.

Good bluegills and crappies in the lake, the perch aren't worth fishing for there, too small.

Tons of walleyes in the lake, most are gonna be in the low teens inch wise but there are certainly more and more bigger fish each year with the slot in place.

Very nice channel cats, up to high teens for pounds and flatheads as well, I've caught them up to 25lbs although there are bigger to be had in there.

I believe the only place that rents boats is Native Bay and I think they only rent pontoons.

Anymore questions fire away!
