Lowrance X-65

I have a Lowrance X65 and have been using it for 6 years. I have tried many times to go to "manual' settings instead of always using the "auto" settings with the fishID. When I use manual with the sensitivuty at the max I always end up with a very cluttered screen. What am I doing wrong? What percentage of gray line setting should I be using? How sensitive?

Can't you just turn off the fish ID but still leave it in automatic?

I think that's what I do with my FishMark 320, but I do realize they are not the same units.

There is really no specific settings for manual, auto is constantly adjusting for depth, clarity, etc. All those factors come into play when you try to take charge. So, as all conditions vary, you have to tweak the settings.

Generally speaking, you are not fishing in the top of the water column so don't worry too much about that. Turn sensitivity high enough for detail, but not so high that the zone you are fishing in is all clutter. Not sure there is much more to it than that.

I am by no means a expert on electronic but i do have a x85. i never use it in auto mode. I have found that I set the greyline at half of what I set the sensitivity too. The highest I usually set the sensitivity is 70-80%. I really dont know if thats the proper way to do it but have found that it works the best this way. If someone has a better way let us know.

Whoaru hit it right on the head. You have to continue to adjust the sensitivity. Most of the time your looking for fish off the bottom so if the top of the locator is cluttered it shouldn't matter. For example if your fishing in 30' of water the bottom 10' should be clear of clutter and only marking fish, hopefully that makes sense

keyks42 is right on, a grayline setting around 30% to maybe 40% works great, have the sensitivity about twice that.

I use auto mode more than manual mode, I use manual if I am really trying to find some bottom transitions -- otherwise it's usually in auto
