Recommendations for oil bath hubs

Bronze Backs

Question

Need to replace one of the outer caps on my 2000 RangerTrail that is running the Oil Bath Hubs. Ranger says to run 50W non-detergent oil in the hubs, but that stuff is impossible to get ahold of. Thinking of using 80-90W gear lube as a stop-gap. Anyone use the gear lube for extended periods of time? Other opinions?

Thanks.

I've seen something about non-detergent oils not foaming as badly as detergent oils. Dunno about that for sure though.

Where I work, we use axles with oil-bath hubs and, AFAIK, 80W-90 gear lube is what's specified for them. It is a MUCH bigger axle we're using though - think similar to OTR truck.
