Birds after the rain

I was out shooting a group of birders for a project I'm working on and a heavy rain/hail storm had just passed. We parked at a lot next to the Kawishiwi River near Ely, and they started hiking down the trail toward an eagle's nest.

But I noticed all these waxwings, woodpeckers, warblers and phoebes were out in the open preening and nabbing what looked like a fresh hatch of mayfly type insects. I left the group and stayed to shoot these guys.

No home runs here, but lots of decent base hits. grin.gif

All with the Canon 30D and Canon 100-400L IS at 400mm, iso320, various shutter speeds at f8, handheld
