Need new remotes for garage door

Both of my remote control garage door openers are now not working. I have a 1/2hp Stanley garage door opener. Model # is ST400. Mfg. date is 93305 (?) Guessing it was made in '93.

What needs to be done to get two new remotes in synch with the garage door opener?

It looks like there is a code sequence on the main motor so I'm guessing I need the two new remotes to match that code sequence?

Thanks in advance.

It's been a few years since I have had to do it, but I remember it being really easy.

You can just buy replacement remotes. Then, it is a matter of opening up the new and old remotes. There is a series of switches, and you just have to match the positions of the switches in the old remotes.

I dont recall what the cut off date was BUT if your garage door does'nt have the safety cut off switches,( two light beams mounted at interior base of door)and pressure switch to stop door travel, the new remotes wont work and you cant purchase a new one,you have to install a new door with safety features.

Interesting! I did not know that.

Mine is a 1994 and I have beams (just had it serviced the other day frown.gif)

Before going out and buying new remotes it seems kind of odd that both remotes would go out at the same time. First make sure the "dip" switches on both the remotes and the motor housing are set to the same sequence. If they are similar and the batteries are good in the remotes AND the opener is getting power (check GFCI) you may be having problems with you opener and may have no other choice than buying a whole new opener.

Did they quit at the same time, like after a storm? If so you may have suffered the same fate as my old ones. My neighbors house was hit by lightning a few years back and for some reason it knocked out the circuit board in my opener, my microwave oven and my VCR. Luckily, I was able to find a used circuit board and fix the opener myself.

I see questions as to your motor=== Does your push button work the door? Or is it not working at all? Do you yet have oringinal instructions? I recall some openers with a button for reset and code sequence acceptance. You could also try to reset the code on the motor (switches) to a different code then match it on remotes.

I lucked out and found the exact remote I needed at Menards tonight. Then it was a matter of matching up the switches with what I had on the main motor. Worked slick as a whistle.

(My first remote went bad a couple of years ago. The second one decided to fizzle out this weekend, nonpower related.)

Thanks all for the help.
