Caribou lake (Grand Rapids)

Has anyone fished Caribou lake? We are going up for a week to Grave lake and are going to take at least one day over there. We have never tried fishing lake trout before. Any pointers on how it could be done without downriggers? It has a secchi disk reading of 28ft blush.gif

Thanks,

Ron

Hey Ron,

I've done OK up there in May and early June by running deep diving crankbaits. Nothing huge for fish though, 2-3 pounds or so. This time of year I think a guy could get some heavy jigs and shiners or smelt and hit the 30' and deeper areas and have some luck. There are a couple sunken islands out there, so look at the DNR map. Three way rigging cranks or using snap weights with a spinner/minnow or crankbait might work too. Let us know if you have any luck.

I would think so Ron. Keep in mind that there's no tulibees or whitefish in there, so I think they're more bottom related feeding on perch and crayfish. It would be great if the DNR would stock some tulibees in there so the lakers could put some weight on.
