I here ya John but FM has been real good to us here and has been a great haven for us wayward anglers, I'll visit the new trapattack site when they bring it on line, for tourney info. The original IT site I was done with a while ago with no regrets. Plus there are so many other good sites out there, when you can spend an entire day at work checking wink.gif

The new otter will be arriving soon, I ordered the hyfax runner kit for it today. I was questioning the hyfax order because 95% of the time I walk but got some good input from a trusted friend and he said "You gotta have them, it's easy pulling with the hyfax and helps protect the base."

With shipping for perch wilderness it was $284.50., to NY, still a sweet deal for the price, can't wait till she arrives. I'll provide pics when I have her assembly completed.

P.S. A couple of guys have called me on this so I called Otter for verification., the hyfax runners for this sled are part number 1206 they are $29.95 and $6.25 shipping to NY

John that's why I put the kid's downhill ski's on my trap pro to protect the tub, plus it does track alot better when towed. Wait a sec. John are you talking about the grooved hyfax that clam came out with? Those things were terrible somebody from our group put em on, maybe it was Frank noooo I think it was Johnny? Help me guys...

YEP!! those are the ones. They are black with 4 or 5 deep grooves runnin' the length of them.FREAKIN HORRIBLE!!But built to take a beating!!Only drawback is If I decide to put something different on, the tub already has all theese holes drilled in it! mad.gif

Oh well CAN'T WIN!! confused.gif

The folks at clam corp especially the ones in customer service are second to NONE!I've always been very pleased with the service. But I was very shocked when I bought my pro,I had to take it back THREE times before I got one that wasn't missing any parts!!Maybe it was because it was a Gander Mountain Edition??Not sure, but very aggravating after the first round spending 4 plus hrs.on assembly just to find out I'm missing parts.THEN get this, the shemp at Gander wanted me to dissassemble it before I returned it!!I said I'll tell you what,How about If I return the approximately $15,000.00 in merchandise I've bought here while I'm at it!! shocked.gifHis tune changed mighty quick!! grin.gif

Sorry, just wanted to share that little story... wink.gif

Oh yeah!, them runners stink!!! tongue.gifgrin.gif

This is CNYFrank under Tim's name since I was in his office when you posted back John... The hyfax were the same for me . . .seemed to have a mind of their own. Someone told me they work better installed upside down . . .no way was I taking them off though. What I did, however, is take the bolts out of three equal distant areas on each hyfax and mounted cut off down hill skies; drilling holes to fit the holes from bolts I had removed from the hyfax'. Used the bolts over as they fit well. Does not matter that they stick out a little. You could recess if you want. Very easy to pull by hand. Try it, you'll like it. Find the skis at a second hand store or from someone that is throwing an old ancient pair out. I used my old ones from 35 years ago.

Thanks Frank,I think I'll do just that.Especially since I have a REALLY old pair of downhill skis from about twenty five years ago, from my pre-ice fishing days...

So you just mounted them right over the hyfax runners, using a few pre existing bolts and holes? If so, sounds easy enough.. wink.gif

You'll never look back John and you'll wonder why you didn't do it long ago. A buddy of ours from the old ice shanty gang days Geeman clued us in on this dealy deal.

Sure I have to change the ski's out on my trap pro every 3 years but it's worth it to keep the paper thin tubs in tip top shape. The first fish trap tun I had had holes in it after the first season with no ski's, lesson learned thank you Paul Fabian for replacing it with a new one smile.gif

We have a ski shop here that get's kid's down hill ski's all the time that are being turned in for new pairs, sometimes I get em free and sometimes as little as $5 for a set. I used the ski hardware too from the toe and heel plates and shims, after removing the bindings. Drill a hole 1" down from the tip of the ski and use a panhead bolt outside and washer and locking nut on the inside of the tub and your good to go.

On Frank's I believe because he had the existing hyfax that he did not need to secure the tips to the front. The above instruction is only if you ride over the existing tub base rail with no hyfax.

Thanks for the advice Tim,This is my 3rd fish trap so I know all about pre-mature wear on the tub bottom.Except for my first model some twenty years ago,That thing was made like a brick s$$t house!!You couldn't kill it if you tried. As a matter of fact, I sold it in the want adds for a hundred bucks!! grin.gifand it had a couple small holes in the bottom!I think the dude who bought it was enamored with the fact that it was involved in winning the first ever N.Y. state trap attack.. wink.gifSo I autographed it for him!! grin.gif

Seriously though, thats why I put those hyfax numbers on the pro.Just so happens once again I'm one of the many who play the roll of the lab rat guinea pig.You know how it goes;cant wait to get the newest coolest thing every year BEFORE the product reports come out!!

Thats O.K. I like my roll.. smile.gifJust gets a bit expensive sometimes...

Tim

Word has it that Henry and Agnes are not a deffinate..

I don't get it,thats what the contact letters CLEARLY stated.

Supposedly, some of the guys (wont mention any names) feel its to lousy a fishery...Maybe they're just scared!!! grin.gif

I heard it was great fishery for catching but size is lacking from a couple of guys, regardless the highlight of the trip will be my stop in Anoka to meet the MarCum boys and to load the van with there fine products grin.gif

Anyhow I hope they don't change the lakes, but if they do I just hope I don't need to switch hotels last minute...

Thats the same way I feel Frank.I think a few of the same guys are in the NAIFC this year that were in it last year who could'nt buy a fish on the tourney lake (Carlos).Somehow the top teams seemed to figure out a way to dial it in come tourney day...I think they just want to make sure EVERYBODY weighs in a full bag of fish and not have to work to hard (god forbid) to figure the fish and fishery out..

NAIFC CHAMPIONS = Team who overcomes all odds to be successful in adverse conditions...

This is what separates the men from the boys, and produces the cream of the crop...

IF easy fishing is what your after and you want to fish in contests you should ONLY enter DERBY'S!!!ICE TEAM is as big as tournement ice fishing gets, and if you feel the competition or conditions are too tough you should not participate...

Thanx, now I'll get off my soap box. grin.gif

Tim them maki plastics are real nice, but I think its ALL about what you use them on.
