how far to cast?

Hey guys,

when you are catfishing from shore...how far out do you cast? I once heard that catfish spend 90% of the day within 10-15 feet of the shore...what are your thoughts?

I live very close to Texas Stadium. I honestly don't do much catfishing. I just learned of a part of the trinity river that is very wide near my house....most of this body of water is still like a lake...but there is subtle current. There are some good cats in there....possibly even alligator gar blush.gif

Not really fishing any particular structure...just baiting up and casting out.

Doop, I caught my first catfish on the Concho River in San Angelo, Texas in the mid 70's. My dad was stationed at Goodfellow AFB there...ah the good ol blood bait days!

I'd head upstream where it narrows, you'll have a bit more current, just fish to the edge of the current,on those hot still days they will be in 12"-48" water, use cut bait.If your fishin the water you described fan cast the area let bait sit 20 min. or so recast you'll scent the area and hopefully get lucky!
