Hey guys,

Does anyone own a Pfluger Presidential spinning reel? If so, how do you like it? I would be using mine for drop shot/shakey head/ jig worm. Any thoughts?

The rod i'm going to go with will be a shimano crucial...how do you guys like your shimanos? I will be fishing in and around cover so I'm figuring on going with Matt's advice and getting a MH 6'10"

As far as line...I like the idea of the Tough Line...but do you think you'd lose bites because of a more visible line?

What is a gamma copolymer?

Doop, I'm a little confused... In your first post you talk drop shotting/shakey, jig worm.. then in your next post you talk in and around cover.. In my opinon they don not mix?

I have 3 rods that I use for Dropshot/shakey/jig worm.

7'2" M Crucial.. Stradic MG reel 6 lb Gamma Edge Florocarbon.

6'8" Shimano Crucial M Stradic 8lb Copoly

6'8" ML St.Croix Shimano Sedona 750 15 lb Power pro(This is the only rod I own that isn't a shimano.. I just cant bring myself to sell it. Its a great jig worm rod.

IF your going drop/shakey rod, My go to is that 7'2" M Crucial... if I am fishing weeds I go with one of the other...

Sorry Deitz for the confusion...but i'll be more than likely be using a shakey head in and around grass and sticks. What line would you recommend I go with?

I have been using a President for a little over 2yrs. It's a good quality reel for the $ and the drag is smooth as silk. The problem I have had was from dunking it while wading the river. It seized up so I had to get a knew one.

I still use the President for exactly the same purposes you purpose just not the river. That rod now holds a Daiwa Exceler. Another outstanding reel for the $.

As for your ? of line, Gamma is just a line manufacturer, higher end (or priced at least) line, and copolymer is a type of line.

For jigwormin' and shakey I go w/ braid and about a 18-24" fluorocarbon leader. I feel the increased sensitivity is a must and the braid cuts through and pulls the fish out of the weeds better than most other lines.

Doop I am a huge fan of Gamma-Like said above me here. They make 2 different lines. A Copoly and a Florocarbon. As far as for what you should use, For shakey worm fishing and drop shotting, the lighter the line, the more hits you are going to get. Plain and simple! THe lighter the line the more times you are going to get broke off.. Plain and simple. So, its a tough decision. I use 6lb most of the time, and as much as 8lb for drop shotting.. and for shakey.. but as much as 15 lb braid(4ll diam) for jig worming.

Thanks Deitz!

I also like the sensitivity of braid over other lines...i've gone away from braid for the past couple of years...I think I'll go back to it for some shakey head action.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
