IM6=36 million modulas graphite, IM7=42 million modulus, IM8=49 million modulus graphite G-loomis IMX is 49 million modulus graphite that make up the rod shaft or blank, These numbers are approximations. The more modulus the higher the sensitivity and the lighter the weight of the blank but with the lightness you also begin to run into a brittleness problem as well. The average fisherperson won't be able to tell the difference between IM6-IM8 other then the lighter weight of the blank. A more seasoned fisherman will love the extra "feel" that they get from one rod to the next. Look to the major rod manufactureers for higher quality and consistency with regards to blanks, reel seats and line guides. Quality can vary between rods and different lines within a manufacturer. A one piece rod will give you better feel then a 2 piece rod. Hope this helps. I'm sure maybe rodmaker or someone else will chime in on this too but that is my basic understanding in a nutshell. Action is an important part of the equation too because you want the right rod for the job you want it to do.

This is what I have for the numbers. Don't ask me where I got it-off some HSOforum a few years ago.

GLX - 65 million modulus

IMX - 55 million modulus

GL3 - 47 million modulus (IM8)

GL2 - 42 million modulus (IM7)

IM6 - 38 million modulus

Standard Graphite - 33 million modulus
