The way I see it,......I did myself a favor. Now my girlfriend won't have to steal mine, She can have the 8. I wish I could play with it. Its just sitting in the box unmoved. I think I'll go watch the instructional video just to see some action. Thanks alot guys (sarcasm) I think

I also own a Fl-18 Dual Beam that i really like over the Fl-8.
For open water fishing i would stay with the 12 degree.
In the Vex Manual or on the web site, it has a chart of the Beam angles Verse the Diameter of Coverage.
www.vexilar.com/help/documents/fl-18.pdf
The difference of 12 to 19 degree at 30' is 3.7' in diameter and the 9 to 19 is 5.3' in diameter so there is some difference.

Uncle grump,Do what i did and buy the 8 I bought another this summer for a spair. I catch lots of fish with the 8 dont need to buy the 18 for a few more fish. If I was starving that much for fish I'd go to the fish market.Besides I like the suspence of waiting for the RED line to show up.Oh what a feeling! If I dont see anything I move to another hole.So save the extra $$ and buy the better beer and some good pop for the kid,and injoy the day fishing together.

Or just another good reason is their is alot more stuff to play with on the Fl-18!

It's like wacthing your favorite show on a 12" TV (Fl-8) then up grading and watching it on a 50" TV (Fl-18). grin.gif

On the 18 the normal mode is just like the 8, except it is alot clearer and alot better in brightness.

Fl-18 definitely the way to go!

Just got the software update on my 18 today. Took the tech about 5 minutes , and he gave me a vexilar hat to boot ! Had to check it out, so took it in the boat for a couple hours. Even made it back home in time for the game!!! GO TWINS !!!

Gotta agree. No comparison between the 18 and the 8. I do get a kick out of those fellas that like to buy the beer instead of a good piece of equipment. They seem to always be able to talk themselves into believing they know better.

I do like the low/high power feature and also I have used the built-in supression that has several levels that you can set. Works fantastic.

I do have the dual and I have found it works for me. But I think the 12 would be just as good all around.

You won't regret getting one.

I would buy the FL-18 just because in bright sun the display is great,I fish trout in canada and all my buddies fish with the FL-8 and the first thing they notice when they stop at my hole is how easy it is to read, plus it has all the other great features, I had to buy a new one as I lost my old FL-8 it flew off the back of my snowmobile fishing on Rainy last winter.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
