How to fend off Grackles???

I set up a feeder in the back yard with sunflower seeds and some suet. The Grackles moved in thick. How does a person get them to stay away??

There's no really effective way to keep them off altogether. You can shoot them if that appeals to you and is legal where you live. You can also run outside and chase them away every time you see them.

In the end, most people bow to the inevitable and put out several feeding stations so the desirable birds have a place to feed when the grackles are hogging the stations.

I used have a bunch of those at my feeders, I put up a fake Raven out by the feeders and it seems to have keep them away. I haven't seen them since. Maybe a coincidence or not, but worth a try anyway..

What works really well is a squirrel proof feeder with an adjustable perch that can adjust to different weights. I have mine set so that Cardinals, Grosbeaks and anything smaller can feed, but as soon as a grackle lands on it , it closes! Also great fun to see squirrels try to figure it out.
