I told my 11 year old that I used to fish muskies years ago and now he wants me to take him muskie fishing. I only did it for 2 years and wasn't very succseful with it, but I still have some equipment and tackle for this. Does anyone know of any lakes in the south metro that we could try? I know cedar lake has muskies in it south of Prior Lake is that worth trying?

If you have a good trolling motor (can't use gas engine) I'd look at Harriet. The water is pretty clear there so if nothing else your son might be able to at least see one on a follow.

Good numbers are in the lake and it holds some supertankers, too.

Throw enough and you should at least see a fish or two.

Wrong Cedar lake. There are no motor restrictions on the Cedar lake that is south of Prior. That lake does get stocked with Tigers. I've heard stories of some big fish but I've only fished it once and didn't have any luck myself. The lake maxes out at about 13 feet deep and the one time I was there early in the season like this the whole lake was packed with curly leaf pond weed.

Doonbuggy never mentioned Cedar lake. Doonbuggy is talking about Harriet in MPLS. There is pure strain muskie in Harriet. The other MPLS lakes have tiger muskies. I haven't caught a pure strain, only 3 tigers. I was bass fishing every time I've caught one. I would try MPLS lakes, Orchard in Lakeville, maybe even Crystal in Burnsville.

Orchard Lake in Lakeville is a good lake for tiger muskies. I was out there a few weeks ago on Muskie opener and saw lots people throwing plugs and suckers for the big boys. So they must have known something.

I was fishing for bass and ended up catching 3 and losing a fourth that day. All about 26-30 inches. Bet I also saw/heard 4 more jump right by where I was that.

Give Orchard a try, but be warned they only have about 8 trailer spots, so get there early (no later then 7) on a weekend or plan on going during the week.

buzzin for bass - are you heading up to the Marcell area this summer? I will be heading up on the 23rd of June. Hopefully I can get into some muskies on Spider, we may have to take a trip over to Northstar also. We should get together and chase some muskies here in the metro.
