Vexilar update?

Has anyone sent in there FL-18 to get the update done on it? Does it seem to work better? I'm trying to decide if it is worth sending it in or not. I only had it misread the bottom a couple of times last year. Thanks.

I own a vexilar FL-8 and haven't had any complaints. If you are an avid walleye fisherman then I could see getting an FL-18 for bottom seperation but other then that I think that the FL-8 is just fine and cheaper. I have looked at FL-18's and I think they are great but I already invested in a FL-8. Just my two-cents. Either way I think vexilar is the key.

I was having that "jumping" problem with my FL18. Seemed to be worse on different bottoms. At any rate, sent it back and they updated the software. Works just great now. After I got it back, it never "jumped" again. Those folks at Velilar are great.

As far as a FL-18 compared to a FL-8, you really have to try one cause there isn't any comparison. It really makes a diffence.

I highly recommend getting it done now before the hard water is here smile.gif

Get the upgrade. It will help alot. Also, if you can hand carry it in, you can carry it back out. My dad took his into the Bloomington service center and the upgrade was done in less than 10 minutes from when he parked. He was extremely pleased.

I had both my units updated towards the end of last season. I have used them on the ice at the end of the season and then on my boat all summer. They work just fine. The upgrade takes just a few minutes, get it done.

As for the Fl-18 compared to the FL-8. Well, there is no comparison. Everyone should have an FL-18. Not only is the bottom zoon a great feature for walleye, I pretty much leave mine in that mode (AZ) all winter. With the upgrade you don't have to switch back and forth all the time like you used to before the upgrade. Try an FL-18 once and you will never want to go back to your FL-8.Scott Steil

If the fl-18 is so great why does everybody have to keep sending them back? why cant they up date them before they ship out to the custumor.Ive had the fl-8 I bought just before the fl-18 was introduced, and that works just fine. Next you'll want it to take the fish off and rebait your hook for you.Technolgy is great but lets not take to much of the sport out of fishing They should have experimented with these to work out the flaws. Not send out for you the customer to find.I think it was all about the $$$$$$$ they could make on the new one. And you all jumped on the band wagon. Just my 2 cents

Isn't this new technology great, at least I think so? Vexilar actually got this one right from the start, this was just a little glitch that most fishermen learned to live with until spring and then they sent them in for the fix. The only complaint that I had was that they did not clean mine up before they sent it back, it was pretty dirty form being on the lake all winter.

The new vexilars come with the fix. The ones that need to be fixed are the ones that were bought last year. When I brought mine in to be fixed, not only did they clean them up, they gave me all the components I was missing after beating them on the ice for a winter in the Ice Leaders Series. I have yet to talk to anyone with an FL-18 that says they aren't totally satisfied with the 18. That says a lot about a product since fisherman always have complaints about products. Scott Steil

My opinion:
#1.) FL-18
#2.) FL 8
#3.) Anything else
If you can spend the $ get the FL-18 and then let you buddy's drool over all the fish you catch. smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif
The definition of the autozoom feature is awesome!!

Wow! Everyone seems to like FL-18. Looks like I'll have to dig up some extra money and pick up one this winter. I have been using an FL-8 but you guys convinced me. FL-18 it is then.
Good Fishin, Matt.

Well, until something that is TRULY better comes along, I'm sticking to my good old proven Clearwater classics. Maybe someday in the future these will be improved upon....but NO ONE has made a better flasher yet!!! My .03 cents.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
