Does wood mulch attract insects?

We are doing landscaping around our house and would like to use wood mulch. We have a multi-level house, so our lower level windows are nearly ground level. I've heard from some people that we should use rock instead of wood because of bug problems near our windows. Have any of you had problems with wood mulch near the house? Perhaps its the type of wood? Using the old "cedar storage chest" theory, would cedar mulch have less bugs?

rocks, mulch...it doesn't really matter. As long as there is dirt underneith there will be some insects.

If you want mulch go for it.

Some varities of wood mulch come with an insecticide built in.

I can't say that I've noticied an excessive amount of insects with multch. We also have a multi-level home with the lower level windows near ground level.
