hotrod1
mushrooms don't cause a threat to your lawn. get rid of them with more frequent mowing or just rake the mushrooms.
harvey lee
I had a pile of them when I put the lawn in at my new house. I didnt want to look at them so I bought some fungicide in a aersol can and sprayed them. It took two sprayings, but they did die without hurting the new lawn. The lawn had been in for 1 year. Just be careful with the fungicide and read all of the directions.
hotrod1
sometimes the mushrooms can be caused by buried lumber, brush or a stump in construction.it also could be from what is called fairy ring. a soil fungus that leaves a dark green circle of grass. it usually is harmless unless it starts to get very dry where i would recommend aerifying frequently over the spots to alow moisture in. harvey lee
Mine were caused by tree branches and such that they buried in the dirt when they worked the lawn. I had a nice crop.
Shack
I get shrooms when I over water an area with my sprinkle system. I am in a dry out mode right now. I had the little buggers pop up right out in open area. Thats how I know I have over water area. Also the green of grass turns into a light shade of yellow. When this occurs, I back off of water and fertilize some. I never thought of the covered up wood before. I guess this would hold moisture and allow the growth of mushrooms. Powerstroke
With all the natural rain we've been getting I know I have mushrooms too. I haven't run my sprinklers in almost 2 weeks but I've still got little button-topped mushrooms. I do also have shrooms from the stump. Most stump removals only go 6-10" down no matter how deep the stump really is. As the wood decays mushrooms can form. Something more serious would be if the offending fungi have a distinct shape or a straight line. There are fungal problems related to tree roots of living trees. Major concern is keeping animals and children from eating them. A rake or shovel does well, fungicide if necessary.
