A few questions

GotCat

Recommended Posts

I just want to say hi to all of my fellow anglers. I am new to this forum and new to cat fishing. I just bought my first cat pole and went out for a while the other night. I have a couple questions though. How often do you change spots or even just change the location of your bait and also if you catch a couple from one spot does it scare all the others away? I only ask this because when we went out to our spot a few guys had just pulled out a 30lber and left. We fished from 12:30pm till 6:30am and didnt even get one run. We were using bullies as bait (got them from the guys that caught the big one). Also we were fishing by sibbly park and I was wondering if it is worth trying above the old (Contact Us Please) there between sibly and rapidan for flathead. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I personally try to re-cast about every 30-45mins, even if its to the same spot.

No fished don't get scared away when another is caught.

Fishing all night and not getting a run is called paying your dues. You will have many nights were you do not have any action. Thats flathead fishing. Learn to enjoy being out on the river or you might want to fish for something else.

If you do get a fish, be gentle with it and get it back into the water as soon as possible. Practice CPR! (Catch, Photograph, Release)

Welcome to the board and

Good Luck!

Oh and yes the Blue Earth river is worth fishing.

Thanks alot. Yeah we had a blast sitting around the fire and doing nothing but I was kinda surprised. I do alot of CPR so thats not a worry. I have a few new spots I want to try but I am not sure yet how to tell if its good so I guess I will go try em and see. Any help on how to pick spots? I know snags, holes and eddys but I dont excatcly know how to see snags or holes and where do you put your bait in an eddy?

Welcome to Fishing Minnesota & Hot Spot Outdoors. You have found a very helpfull site and many are willing to help with any questions.

Rushing pretty much said it all.

Tonight myself and a friend fished the river and had many runs for approx 1 hour. We picked up a few and lost some that came unbuttoned. The boat next to us picked up six with the biggest going around 15#'s. I was a beautiful night on the river.

Man I must be doing something wrong. Maybe not but I have been out 6 nights now and have yet to get a run. I have tried 3 different places (all known to have caught big flatheads) and still no luck. I am using bullies. I am also fishing from shore. Is the water too high and to fast right now for them. It seems to have risen and gotten faster this last week. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am probobly going back out sunday night to try again.

We were out tonight fishing a spot that was good to us a week ago. The current was very fast out of the creek and yes, the water looks to have risen. We got the ole skunk tonight for three guys. Tough night.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
