Not Sure How to Explain This... (Flathead Report 05-18-07)

The text message I sent to flathead guru Brian Klawitter at 10:30 or so read-

9lb, 9lb, 9lb, 9 1/2lbs Where are the big girls at?

I should have held off on that text message because the night ended up being 9lb, 9lb, 9lb, 9 1/2lbs, 9lb, 9lb. Just crazy!

When I picked up Dtro for a night of fishing. I had confidence! I told him we were in for at least 6 fish tonight and I've never had that kind of confidence before. Believe it or not, we put 6 flatheads in the boat in about a 4 hours time, but not a single one of them cracked the 10lb mark, and nothing weighed under 9lbs either. I have never seen that before in my life.

Normally you'll get a small one and a big one. Or a a couple small ones and a medium one. Or you'll get a big one. Or you won't get any! But to see 6 fish that were all the same size class was really strange.

On a positive note, hook up ratio in the boat last night was 100%. Darren set the hook into the bottom once but we don't count that. My hook up to "run" ratio is phenomenal right now, I haven't swung and missed yet.

I finally got in on the action with my 2nd clicker run of the year!

We're both up to 2 each now!

It then went quiet for awhile when this one wanted to eat

Not sure what else to say... It was a phenomenal night fishing and an awesome night to be on the water. It really feels like summer now! One big kicker fish would have made last night truly a night to remember.

I went down and got three nice little mudeyes after dinner tonight...those little one handers are so cute! Next week I hope to spend a few more hours.
