LaVoi
Okay I am open for suggestions here. I have a speech I need to write in one of my classes and we'll just say I should have started a long time ago. That is one bad thing about this HSOforum, I spend too much time on it!! I need to write a speech on a controversial issue in natural resources. It consists of two speeches, one that you are for one side, and the other speech I will defend the other side of the topic. Thanks for any help. Good fishin, LaVoi
SpikeRoberts
LaVoi,I have to laugh at your post. I teach public speaking at the U of MN -- I'm afraid that I see people in your situation all too often. If you're looking for a topic, you might want to consider the current debates over the extent of the use of ATVs in MN State Forests. The topic is timely, controversial, and there is plenty of info readily available on both sides of the issue. Several recent startrib articles are available on their HSOforum, Minnesotans for Responsible Recreation and the ATV Association of MN also have websites that stake out the opposing positions on the proper use of ATVs in the state forests. Dan97
Hey LaVoi...Here's a good one. It may be a bit too political but what about the trials and tribulations of the Lake Mille Lacs slot?Or:- stocking vs. natural reproduction.- the Red Lake walleye stocking program vs. the crappie population.- 2 stroke vs. four stroke outboards and their impact on the enviroment.- How to control the goose population.- The decision making process in the DNR.Topics....There's a million of them, but the toughest thing is to pick one and get started.Good luck my friend. Keep us posted as to how it goes.Dan------------------[email protected]

MnSportsman
here ya go....hows about..... Slots & limits based on purely biological data, or[vs.] Slots & limits based on social issues. [i.E.- changing the limits for walleyes to 4 from 6 based on data purely obtained from a biological study of the ecosystem, or, changing it from 4-6 fish, based on complaints from some anglers that it's too hard for most anglers to catch 6 fish as a limit & so we should make the limit smaller so those that don't catch a limit do not "feel" bad that since they didn't catch their limit, thus they don't feel like they're not better anglers than the ones that do catch a limit. ] {^^ All written "TIC" (<tongue-in-cheek), of course, I certainly don't want to hurt any feelings by offering this debate as a subject for your class project.} Although it's already happened in some cases, it seems to me.(crappie limits come to mind) ------------------Good Luck & Watch your bobber!MnSportsmanProud to be a member in good standing, of the "Church of the Divine Wilderness"!
